After driving all night, we were glad to get to the beach. This
was our first time, and it was around 5:30 in the morning. I can't
remember being so tired in my life, but I was also very excited about the
coming week.
|
Honest, mom, we just want to go "wading." Well, after this dip,
we ended up digging through our luggage for dry clothes, and holding up
towels to form a make-shift changing room beside the road.
|
A state park was located just down the cape from the house we rented
for a week. This shot was taken during a little nature walk.
|
This was also on our nature walk, just prior to our getting lost.
We found our way due to the fact that we were right on the the tip of the
cape. So, there wasn't too many places to look.
|
The nearby town of Apalachicola had a great little Antique shop that
included a nice courtyard out back.
|
After some looking, we found the lighthouse that was on the cape.
They were in the process of restoring it, but we took the opportunity to
snap a quick picture.
|
Flying a kite on our beach was so amazingly easy. All you had
to do was hold it above your head, and let it go. Of course, you
can't let it go too high. (I lost the first kite that way.)
|
What gorgeous sunsets we had. Here the sun sets on out sons.
Notice how empty and private the beach is.
|
This little fellow was one of many crabs we found on the beach in front
of our house. This is actually inside of my frisbee.
|
Relaxing around the house was high on our agenda as well. Here
Patrick takes time out to surf the web and Joe hams it up for the camera.
|
There were a number of places along the main road where you could buy
seafood from the local fisherman. At this place, we got to grab some
crabs of our own.
|
Roberta started with little tongs, but the crabs were so lively, she
moved up to the big barbecue tongs, instead.
|
Renting a boat to venture out on the water is just about mandatory.
Just be sure you know what time it is before you go out, as we didn't realize
we had crossed into a new time zone a few miles back.
|
Here we are almost ready to turn in the boat. Joe had had enough
and snoozed on the way back in to shore.
|
We drove out to St. George's Island one day for a little shell hunting.
They were everywhere!
|
After passing by a wall of rocks all week on our way off the cape to
go into town, we finally stopped to see what was on the other side.
We found that this beautiful spot was a favorite with the local fishermen.
